HWS Awards $25K in Youth Grants.
Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY, recently hosted an event during HWS Day that highlighted student leadership and community engagement. As part of the “Nonprofit Organizations, Philanthropy and Impact” course, students awarded $25,000 in grants to local nonprofits with support from the Gantcher Family Foundation and Mike ’92 and Christina Gantcher P’27.
The grants focused on youth development initiatives. Students awarded grants to four organizations: Success for Geneva’s Children received $10,000 for a financial empowerment project; Epic Zone, represented by the Partnership for Ontario County, was given $7,000; The Dove Block received $4,500 for art workshops; and Literacy Volunteers of Ontario/Yates County was awarded $3,500.
The event also featured a Community Engaged Scholarship Forum where community-student projects were celebrated. During the forum, Isabelle Girolamo ‘26, Associate Professor Craig Talmage, and HWS Trustee Kirra Guard ‘08, MAT ‘09 were recognized for their leadership contributions. The announcement was made on April 18, 2023.
