Light a Candle for Literacy & Book Festival Revived

Staff Report / syracuselocal.org

Deputy Mayor Owens recently marked the start of the Light a Candle for Literacy & Book Festival in Syracuse. This event, a revival of a long-standing tradition, aims to raise awareness about the importance of literacy and combat summer reading loss in children. Families and community members gathered at Brighton Academy to partake in activities such as meeting local authors and illustrators, receiving free books, and enjoying live performances. The festival serves as a reminder to parents about the significance of reading to their children daily. The event was previously organized by individuals including Mrs. Geneva Hayden, Edward Kochian, and Karen Norton.
