Greeley Fire Promotes Life-Saving PulsePoint Cardiac Alert App
Greeley Fire Department in Weld County, CO, is promoting the PulsePoint smartphone app. The free, dispatch-connected app alerts nearby users if someone in a public place suffers a cardiac arrest. Once an alert is received, the app provides directions to the scene along with guidance on how to perform CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The app also indicates the location of the closest available AED. Emergency response data show that for every minute that passes without help during a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), the likelihood of survival decreases by 7% to 10%. SCA is a leading cause of preventable death, killing nearly 1,000 people a day in the United States, and nearly 60% of victims do not receive CPR until professional help arrives.
PulsePoint emphasizes the importance of quick action. Early CPR and rapid defibrillation can increase survival rates by 50% before professional help arrives. The app is available for download in popular app stores, and more details are provided at pulsepoint.org.
The campaign is presented by Greeley Fire Department as part of its commitment to public service and community safety.
