Greeley Remembers Crime Victims During National Crime Victims' Rights Week

GREELEY, Colo. — Yesterday, Bittersweet Park served as a backdrop for an afternoon of remembrance as attendees gathered to honor survivors and remember those lost during National Crime Victims' Rights Week. The event drew an incredible turnout.

Speakers included:

  • Alyssa Saint, MADD Victim Service Specialist, on behalf of the Kelley Family, in remembrance of Gracelyn Kelly, Cayson Peavy, Cody Peavy and Carter Peavy.
  • Greeley Police Officer Andrew Brown, on behalf of his aunt, Cheri Webster.
  • Faith Thompson, Greeley Police Victim Service Advocate, on behalf of Darin and Gaylene Gilderoy, Colson and Jessica Callaham, and Abigail and Oaklyn, in remembrance of Laura Ashley Rubin.
  • Shae Kaus, in remembrance of her daughter Emorie Goodro.
  • Julie Legg, in remembrance of her son U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Kris Mansfield.

Organizers expressed gratitude to Weld County's Coordinating Committee for Victims of Crime and the City of Greeley Forestry Division for partnering in making the tree-planting ceremony possible. Deputy Chief Mike Zeller received special thanks for guiding the event as master of ceremonies.

Organizers said they will continue to grow a legacy of support and justice for all victims.

Greeley man arrested on 75 counts of child sexual exploitation

Greeley, Colo. — Nathan Brown, Jr., 22, was arrested Thursday by the Greeley Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit on 75 felony counts of sexual exploitation of a child, with a $100,000 cash/surety bond set and him remaining in custody at the Weld County Jail as the investigation continues.

Woman struck, killed by train in Greeley, Colo.

GREELEY, Colo. — A 37-year-old Greeley woman was killed Thursday when a southbound Union Pacific freight train struck her on the 300 block of N. 8th Avenue after the conductor sounded the horn and attempted an emergency stop; the investigation is ongoing and the coroner will release her identity after notifying next of kin.

Roybal-Smith sentenced to 80 years for three murders

Denver District Attorney John Walsh said Ricky Roybal-Smith pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Denver and to two counts of second-degree murder in Adams County, receiving 56 years for the Denver charges and 80 years in Adams County to run concurrently with the Denver sentence after strangling 34-year-old Vincent Chacon in a Downtown Detention Center cell on June 30, 2025.
