Cold Weather Safety Alert for Brighton Residents

Staff Report /

**Severe Cold Weather and Safety Alert for Brighton Area**

The Brighton Police Department has issued a public safety alert as dangerous cold weather conditions grip the area. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Springfield, Illinois, residents should prepare for extreme conditions with wind chills predicted to plummet to as low as 25 to 30 degrees below zero late tonight through Tuesday morning.

The NWS warns that these life-threatening wind chills will persist until Tuesday afternoon, with only slight improvements expected later in the day. However, temperatures are not anticipated to rise above zero until sometime during the day on Wednesday.

The Brighton Police urge residents to take precautions to stay safe during these hazardous conditions. If you must go outside, wear layers of clothing, cover exposed skin, and limit your time outdoors to avoid frostbite and hypothermia. Check on vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, children, and those without sufficient heating, to ensure their safety.

Stay updated on the weather situation and follow further announcements from the Brighton Police Department and local emergency services.
