Brighton Police Department has arrested 26-year-old Jose Castruita Reyes on charges of felony animal cruelty. This case has been filed with the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office, with charges including aggravated cruelty to animals and cruelty to animals. The arrest stems from an incident where officers responded to a report of animal abuse at an apartment on Mather Street. Property management found at least one deceased animal in the apartment, which had been left unattended for over two weeks. Further investigation revealed that two dogs had been left in wire shut kennels without food or water. One dog was taken to Riverdale Animal Shelter for care, while the other dog was found deceased after partially delivering a litter of puppies who also did not survive. Reyes was arrested on scene and is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with Colorado laws. Chief Matt Domenico emphasized the city's zero-tolerance policy towards animal cruelty. Anyone with information on animal mistreatment is encouraged to report it to the Brighton Police Department.
