**Greeley Firefighter Recognized for Outstanding Service in 2024**

Greeley Fire Department's Lieutenant and Paramedic Luke Meier was honored on Sunday, February 23rd, at the VFW’s annual Americanism Awards Ceremony. Selected as Greeley Fire Department's "FF in Blue," Lt. Meier received the recognition for his exemplary contributions as the department’s Hazardous Materials Team Leader in 2024.

Lt. Meier, a 10-year veteran of the department, was nominated by his Battalion Chief for his leadership and dedication. Throughout 2024, his achievements included spearheading critical training and response initiatives across multiple departments and agencies.

Key accomplishments by Lt. Meier in 2024 included:

- Leading a three-day large-scale training exercise in collaboration with the 8th Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team.

- Organizing a department-wide training session with BNSF Railroad to enhance preparedness for railway emergencies.

- Conducting a hazardous materials threat analysis specific to the 2024 elections, accompanied by the development of tailored response plans.

- Partnering with state officials to ensure compliance with PFAS foam storage regulations.

- Developing and implementing a new Standard Operating Procedure, along with department-wide training, for handling lithium-ion battery and electric vehicle fires.

Additionally, Lt. Meier coordinated response efforts and training programs across 12 Weld County Fire Departments, further enhancing regional preparedness.

Fire Chief Kuznik recognized Lt. Meier’s leadership and dedication at the ceremony, emphasizing the positive impact his work has had on the department and the wider community. Congratulations to Lt. Meier on this well-deserved recognition!

Greeley man sentenced to 159 years for fentanyl, meth distribution
