**Greeley City Council Proclaims Black History Month and Youth Arts Month**

During last night’s City Council meeting in Greeley, Colorado, Mayor John Gates issued two proclamations recognizing February as Black History Month and March as Youth Arts Month.

The proclamation for Black History Month highlights an opportunity to honor the achievements and contributions of African Americans both locally and across the nation. The City of Greeley emphasized the importance of acknowledging the challenges, progress, and innovative spirit of Black Americans who have shaped and enriched communities, including Greeley and Weld County. The proclamation for Youth Arts Month recognized the value of art education for students, noting its ability to foster creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and cultural understanding. As part of this initiative, art educators in Greeley and Evans, from Kindergarten through college, will collaborate to showcase student artwork. Pieces will be displayed around the University of Northern Colorado campus and downtown Greeley throughout March in partnership with the Greeley Creative District, the Downtown Development Authority, and local businesses.

Greeley man sentenced to 159 years for fentanyl, meth distribution

Greeley, Colo. — A man was sentenced to 159 years in prison in Weld County for fentanyl and meth distribution, following the work of the Weld County Drug Task Force and prosecutors with the Weld County District Attorney’s Office, which said the case involved the removal of thousands of fentanyl pills and large amounts of methamphetamine from the community.

CDOT to install traffic signals at CO 52, WCR 41

Crews will install new traffic signals, stop lines, signage and other signal-related devices at the intersection of CO 52 and Weld County Road 41 between Hudson and Fort Lupton, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation, with work weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., shoulder closures and lane shifts, reduced speeds and flaggers guiding traffic.

59th Avenue Closure Remains in Effect in Greeley

Greeley, Colo. — 59th Avenue between F Street and O Street remains closed for construction, with detours via AA Street to the north, 4th Street to the south, 83rd Avenue west of the project and 35th Avenue east of it, and message boards at O Street, 83rd Avenue, N. 47th Avenue and 59th Avenue/AA Street guiding motorists while live updates are posted on the Weld County Road Advisory Map.

Greeley Police investigate after man found dead outside apartment complex

Greeley police say they are investigating the Feb. 16 death of a 45-year-old man found with a head injury outside an apartment complex, calling it an isolated incident with no threat to the community as the Weld County Coroner’s Office will release the name and the investigation continues.
