**Man Sentenced to Life for Beating and Killing Toddler**
*GREELEY, Colo. (Feb. 19, 2025)* – A Weld County man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being found guilty of murdering an 18-month-old toddler in 2021.
On Tuesday, a Weld County jury convicted 29-year-old Andy Carter of the murder of Emorie Goodro, who died on July 2, 2021, after being severely beaten while in his care. Carter, who was dating Emorie's mother at the time, was babysitting the child at a Greeley residence when the incident occurred.
Emorie was initially taken to Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley and later flown to Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora, where she succumbed to her injuries caused by blunt force trauma to her head and brain.
During the sentencing hearing on Wednesday, Weld County District Court Judge Timothy Kerns handed down a life sentence to Carter, barring any possibility of parole. The mother of the victim, speaking at the hearing, expressed the deep grief and loss her family has faced since Emorie’s death. "There’s an emptiness inside of me that will haunt me for the rest of my life. I have no doubt that my girl would have changed the world,” she said.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Arynn Clark and Deputy District Attorney Daniel Skelton prosecuted the case. During the trial and sentencing, CDDA Clark focused on honoring Emorie’s life, describing her as a cherished and happy child. “This family now has a life sentence of their own as they move forward and have to live without this absolutely precious and perfect little girl,” Clark told the court.
The trial spanned three weeks, and the jury reached a verdict on Tuesday. The Weld County District Attorney's Office confirmed that Carter will serve his life sentence in the Colorado Department of Corrections.
