**Prairie View High School Students Lead the Way in Celebrating Black Culture**

Prairie View High School in Brighton, Colorado, wrapped up Black History Month by spotlighting the impactful work of its African and Black Student Union (ABSU). Led by president Salomae Jenkins and secretary Tracy Boateng, the club fosters a welcoming space for students to embrace their heritage and celebrate Black culture.

"Celebrating Black culture to me means embracing our Blackness and not being afraid or intimidated to show who you are," said Tracy Boateng, reflecting the mission of the ABSU to uplift and empower students.

Salomae Jenkins shared her inspiration for joining ABSU, crediting upperclassmen who originally started the club as role models. "This club felt like a safe and communal space to be because I was surrounded by people who look like me," she explained.

Under their leadership, the ABSU has become a vital part of the school community, honoring the resilience, achievements, and identity of its members. 27J Schools celebrated the efforts of Salomae, Tracy, and the ABSU, commending them for creating a space where students feel seen and supported while inspiring others to take pride in their heritage.

As February concluded, the district expressed pride in the students who honor Black history and culture, underlining the importance of initiatives that amplify diverse voices within the community.
