Greeley Standoff Ends, Armed Suspect Dies in Home Incident

Greeley police responded to a report of a disturbance involving weapons on Sunday, December 14, at approximately 8:35 a.m. A woman called authorities after stating that a male armed with a shotgun had assaulted her in her residence on the 4700 Block of 29th Street. She managed to escape before officers arrived.

At about 9:05 a.m., a Reverse 911 text instructed residents within a three‐block radius to shelter in place while officers dealt with the situation. The 53-year-old male suspect had barricaded himself inside the home. He initially engaged in communication with the crisis negotiation unit but later stopped communicating.

A search warrant was issued and the SWAT team became involved to try to secure his surrender. When officers entered the residence, they found the suspect had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Reverse 911 alert was cancelled at approximately 5:00 p.m. The suspect's name will be released by the Weld County Coroner’s Office after next of kin have been notified. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective John Colgate at john.colgate@greeleypd.com. The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are being released at this time.
